Heartspace Presents – Community Yoga

I am home. During my travels, I could’t help but notice that the theme of Community emerged everywhere I went. Community was created in a Girls Writing Workshop I co-led, which expanded as each presenter came into the space and then the larger public attended the closing celebration and reading.

Next, while on vacation the theme of community emerged again. Learning about the founders of Hershey and Heinz and their concern for the overall wellbeing of their factory workers. Then I saw a Mr. Rogers exhibit and went to Randyland. It’s an Art Museum, that is more of an art installation that is evolving since the artist continues to add on to it. The intention of this particular site is to be happy and allow happiness to emerge. Come together in community and be accepting of everyone.

All of this was poetic as HeartSpace was created to build community in ways that many people long for and need. As we continue to step out in the the community to build safe spaces for people to come together a new idea emerged.

Around 2008-2009, I was interested in yoga and very intimidated by it. I had a lot of uncertainties, I didn’t know what type of yoga class to take, the poses looked intimidating, I was afraid I would hurt myself and I had many questions and assumptions about it.

It wasn’t until 2013, when I pursued a work-life balance, that I started practicing yoga. My first class was a gentle yoga class and it was a great place for me to start. Yoga is one of my passions and asana (physical poses), breath work and meditation (which are all aspects of yoga) changed my life.

As a certified yoga teacher, I feel drawn to create a safe space for people to practice yoga. I am excited to announce Somos Yoga (We Are Yoga) space for everybody and body-type to practice yoga.

If you are curious about yoga, new to yoga or experienced, you are all welcome here.

August Happenings

We are currently in Texas co-leading a writing workshop for Latinx girls. Our founder has been co-leading this space since 2016. She enjoys giving back to youth spaces since youth spaces helped nurture her areas of interest and growth.

Our next public Council will be in the Fall during the month of October. Please check our website or sign up for our mailing list.

July 2019 :: Fear Council

This is our second council for our summer series at Abundant Space in Scottsdale.

The theme for the July Council is Fear. We all have fears big or small, real or imagined. Some fears stem from childhood, others emerged in adulthood. Some of them shape how we live our life. Join us as we share stories around fear.

June 2019 :: Belonging Council

We are happy to announce that we will be having a summer series from June – August at Abundant Space in Scottsdale.

This Council will be on the theme of Belonging. We’ve all had moments when we were a part of a group, and moments when we have felt like an outsider. Join us as we explore the theme of belonging (or lack of belonging).

May 2019 :: Silence Council

May marks HeartSpaces one year anniversary of hosting Council in the Metro-Phoenix Area. To celebrate we will have a very special Council + Yoga Nidra.

We are going back to the original studio that welcomed us to the community to share the beauty that is council.

We will start with a Council Practice then transition into a Yoga Nidra Meditation focused on an intention you set during Council. Adding an intention to Yoga Nidra makes it more powerful.

Council is an age-old cross cultural practice that brings people together in true community. Guided by a trained facilitator of the practice, a safe space is created for mindful communication to unfold.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient sleep-based meditation technique which allows the mind and body to rest and relax into stillness.

Join us on Saturday, May 25th as we share stories around Silence (and the voice).
