Yoga Teacher

Stephanie Marie, Founder & Yoga Teacher

Hello, my name is Stephanie Marie aka Stephanie M. Flores. I found my voice in 2013, which changed my life.

That year, I pursued a work life balance, which brought me to practice meditation and yoga and study improv. Improv created the space for me to notice my habits: I was always the last on stage, always the last to speak and when I spoke I didn’t say a lot. I wondered what this saying about me in lifehow am I showing up this way?

I went to a voice coach, reconnected to my body through breath and body awareness, the same awareness that yoga teaches and found my voice that up to that time, I did not know was hidden. I didn’t know I was hiding.

My goal is help others find their voice, speak their truths, and heal in the ways they need.

I was drawn to create Somos Yoga because I want everyone to feel safe to practice yoga in community. We don’t always have spaces that allow us to show up as we are, yoga by its nature is that space, but not all yoga spaces are inviting.

I believe yoga is for everyone.

As a teacher I meets students where they are, empower them to listen to their body, connect to their breath. I make each pose accessible with the use of modifications and props. As an optimist and storyteller, I weave in mindfulness, chakras, mantras and/ or quotes to serve the theme of the class.

Trainings and Certifications: Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), Advanced I AM Yoga Nidra Facilitator, Yin Yoga, Life Coach, Mindful Guided Imagery Facilitator & Council Facilitator.

Additional Trainings and Certifications: Trauma Resilience Model (TRM) – Level 1, Youth Mental Health First Aid USA, Trauma Informed Primary Prevention (TIPP), Non-Violent De-Escalation – Level 1 and Community Care – Youth Consent and Sexual Harassment Training.

Why I Teach

Around 2008-2009, I was interested in yoga and very intimidated by it. I had a lot of uncertainties and questions, I didn’t know what type of yoga class to take, the poses looked intimidating and I was afraid I would hurt myself.

In 2013 I started practicing yoga. My first class was a gentle yoga class and it was a great place for me to start. Yoga is one of my passions and yoga and pranayama (breath work) changed my life.

As a teacher it’s my goal to create a safe space for people of all body types to feel welcome and comfortable to practice yoga in community. When you are ready, I look forward to meeting you in a future class.
