ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Stephanie Marie has practiced yoga, meditation and mindfulness since 2013. She was first drawn to yoga and meditation to pursue a work-life balance, when body awareness and pranayama (breath) changed her life. She was drawn to create Somos Yoga because she wants everyone to feel safe to practice yoga in community.
She believes that yoga is for everyone. As a teacher she meets students where they are, empowers them to listen to their body, connect to their breath and makes each pose accessible with the use of modifications and props. As an optimist and storyteller, she weaves in mindfulness, chakras, mantras and/ or quotes to serve the theme of the class.
Stephanie is currently working on a Mind-Body Transformational Psychology degree. She is passionate about building community and authentic connection through the practice of Council. In her free time, she enjoys art classes, storytelling events, group meditation, reading and listening to music.
Trainings and Certifications: RYT, Advanced I AM Yoga Nidra Facilitator, Transformational Coach, Mindful Guided Imagery Facilitator & Council Facilitator
Additional Training she has received: Level 1 of the Trauma Resilience Model (TRM), certified Youth Mental Health First Aid USA, certified Trauma Informed Primary Prevention (TIPP) and certified in Level 1 of Non-Violent De-Escalation.
WHY I TEACH:
Around 2008-2009, I was interested in yoga and very intimidated by it. I had a lot of uncertainties and questions, I didn’t know what type of yoga class to take, the poses looked intimidating and I was afraid I would hurt myself.
In 2013 I started practicing yoga. My first class was a gentle yoga class and it was a great place for me to start. Yoga is one of my passions and yoga and pranayama (breath work) changed my life.
As a teacher it’s my goal to create a safe space for people of all body types to feel welcome and comfortable to practice yoga in community. When you are ready, I look forward to meeting you in a future class.
